Fifth Street Bike Lane Dedication
The City of Wilmington has recently completed a renovation project to re-pave the important 5th Street corridor downtown and add safety features for Cyclists, such as painted green bicycle lanes near the intersections. This project has been several years in planning and is now complete. The City is holding a Ribbon Cutting ceremony this coming Wednesday the 17th at 11:00AM. We would like to get all possible cyclists to join to help show our support and visibility to City, Planning and Department of Transportation officials for this important milestone. Hopefully there will be many others to follow.
The ceremony will be held near The Rusty Nail at 1310 S. 5th Ave and parking will be available at the Rusty nail.
Fifth Ave now has clearly designated bike lanes and to make them more visible the bike lanes are painted green at the intersections. This is a major advancement for bicycling safety that CFC and TBBF have been advocating for over a long period.
To show our appreciation and to encourage more improvements like this we need to have a number of bicyclists in attendance, so please consider joining and bring your cycling friends, on bicycle. We plan to have an impromptu bike ride to celebrate this, and will ask biking participants to arrive at the dedication site at about 10:45 on the 17th of December.
